WEEK THREE PROMISES TO BRING THE HEAT

It’s all happening at the Mandeville Indoor Arena with the Basketball National League underway in the men’s and women’s games. The competition has already seen two weeks of ball being played with teams making their intentions clear early.

Group B can already see the standings in both the men’s and women’s sections. The men’s section has seen three of the six teams taking to the floor, with the Western Cape Mountaineers leading the way with 3 points on the log after one win and one loss. The Mpumalanga Rhinos occupy the second spot after one game, which saw them getting off to a winning start. Egoli Magic is in third, with the Cape Town Tigers, Free State Warriors, and Limpopo Pride still yet to get their campaign underway. The women’s section has seen more ball being played, with the KwaZulu Marlins at the summit after three games. Egoli Magic is in second position, while Limpopo Pride and Free State Warriors women are all on 3 points and separated by goal difference.

With week one only seeing the women’s Group B in action, Lufuno Mutungutungu of Limpopo pride owned the court, claiming the player of the week honours. Week two was awarded to Pretty Shange of the KwaZulu Marlins. Stephan Gabriel helped the Western Cape Mountaineers to a fairly good start, seeing him named the player of the week with the best stats in the majority of his game.

Week three fixtures will feature Women Group A teams taking to the court at the Mandeville Indoor arena, with the women’s section setting the scene alight at 12pm on Saturday, when the Western Cape Mountaineers lock horns with the Eastern Cape Windbreakers. The men’s Group B section follows with Limpopo Pride up against Egoli Magic at 2pm. Sunday then sees the first game starting at 11am with the Eastern Cape Windbreakers matching up with the Soweto Panthers in the women’s game. Week three’s final tip-off is at 1pm where the Mpumalanga Rhinos men’s team will be taking on Limpopo Pride.

The great news of the week is that the Cape Town Tigers have now joined the league for the men’s section.
